Tips |THAT GLOW!

Hey there eila love. Welcome back to my blog. I am currently obssessed with how Joy Kendi’s skin is dripping in all kinds of goodness! She is always glowing all the way to heaven. She has that gorgeous looking skin that makes you want to just take it and patch it on yourself.

Image from Joy Kendi’s instagram.

Today am gonna share tips on how to achieve ‘The Glow Glo’ right here in my blog.

Hydrate.

I will never stop emphasizing how you need to hydrate your body and also your skin. Hydrate your body from the inside by drinking water daily and your skin by using products that hydrate the skin, in that they seal in the moisture to your skin. I talked about the difference in hydrating n moisturizing your skin in one of my blog posts. If you haven’t checked it out please click here.

Products.

Using the right products for your skin will be good for your skin. Find the good quality products from a good reputable retailer who won’t mislead you. The products you use go directly to your skin so you need to be careful and look at the ingredient list before using it. I will soon do an article on the ingredients you need to avoid in your skincare products.

Skincare Routine.

Having your own skincare regimen that you follow to the latter can be a great way to get that glowy skin. If you have the best skincare product and you are not consistent in your own skincare routine, how do you expect to get clear glowy skin?

I will give you guys an update on my skincare routine because i have changed it since the last one.

No make up days.

This should be your free day to let your skin breathe. Make up every single day of the week is not good for our skin. It can make our pores clog. This day should the day you go ham with your skincare. You do the exfoliation, masking and anything you feel like you need.

Do not sleep with make up on, no matter how good you think you look.

Eat healthy.

Ever heard that what you eat will be seen on your skin. Eat your vegetables right….get the beautiful skin you’ve been longing to have. Eat unhealthy, your body will reward you accordingly.

That’s it for today’s blog guys. Hope you love it.

Happy anniversary to eilaslove.wordpress.com

Thank you guys for the love.

Hydrate or Moisturize?

Hello eilalove. Hope you’ve had a great weekend. Do you know the difference between hydrating and moisturizing? Hydrator and moisturizer? This topics is one of the most confusing ones ever. Have you read my post on skin types? I talked about dry skin and dehydrated skin.

Let me recap the contents just a bit.

Dehydrated skin lacks water and it needs to be hydrated where as dry skin lacks oil and needs to be moisturized. One can suffer from both dry and dehydrated skin or oily and dehydrated skin.

Image from Pinterest.

Our body needs to stay hydrated at all time. This brings me back to my rule….DRINK WATER AT ALL TIMES. Hydration from the inside makes our skin look healthy, soft and elastic from the outside. During the times we sweat, water evaporates to the atmosphere and we need to protect our inner hydration with an oil on our skin hence we moisturize.

You can hydrate your skin using various products that contain humectants e.g. glycerin/glycerol, honey or hyaluronic acid. They bind water to the skin.

Moisturizers on the other hand prevent water from leaving the skin. Example of moisturizers Shea butter, Jojoba oil or Vitamin E based oils.

When using a hydrating product and a moisturizing product, which one comes first?

πŸ‘‰Yes you thought it right! A hydrating product first, then the moisturizing product follows.

To know whether your product is hydrating or moisturizing, you can read the label and check the ingredients list of your product.

I use vitamin E oil and fluffy buttah which has Shea butter, raw cocoa butter, virgin coconut oil, sweet almond oil and fragrance oil. This product is moisturizing and you know how much I have talked about it.

Dehydrated skin can be moisturized but it will still look dull. Let’s all stay hydrated from the inside.

Influenced before??

Hey there eilalove. Have you ever been influenced by someone to buy something? Make up, skincare and hair care products, tech maybe? I know I have. Most of the hair and skin care products I bought were through the influence of beauty influencers and bloggers.

I bought these products because I had a huge interest in them and was dying to try them. Thank God I love all the products that I got except maybe one and that wasn’t a waste of my money.

Garnier Even and Matte Gentle Clarifying foam and the Toner -Joy Kendi. You guys if you are all about skincare like I am then you know Joy Kendi and her flawless skin!!! I love love the clarifying foam so much am thinking of getting a new one. I got it from Jumia when there was a sale. I love Jumia sales. I stopped using the toner because I realised that it had Methyl Paraben! My skin does not do well with parabens. I sure will write a post about parabens soon so that you know why I am hella scared of them. The cleanser and toner was 293KES each.

Mosara Hydarating Butter and the Mosara Deep Treatment Masque- Sheila Ndinda. I am in love with Sheila’s hair you guys. I got this products from Jumia during a sale and I am loving the butter. I haven’t started using the masque yet. I would definitely repurchase the butter. The butter was 171KES, the masque 150KES.

Mikalla woman products. -Craving Yellow (Tabitha). She talked about these products in her YouTube channel once and the affordable part caught my attention since then I am loyal to these products. She also incorporates the products in her Craving yellow boxes that are on sale. My shampoo, conditioner…y’all have heard me talk about these products in another post.

Image from Mikalla woman’s Instagram.

Dark and Lovely Au Naturale Anti-itch scalp soother. – Maxine Wabosha I saw her use the scalp soother once in her YouTube channel and the fact that it was anti-itch made me curious. Ooh it also states that it has peppermint oil. I have never been disappointed by a product. It does not leave me with that soothing minty feeling on my scalp whenever I use the product. I have used a product infused with peppermint before that left my scalp feeling amazing. Would I repurchase this product….No. This is how I feel about this particular product. It just didn’t soothe my scalp as I expected it to. Thank God I bought it from a Jumia sale. 😊267 KES.

Sisi naturals Vitamin E. -Natalina Yemane. I use the vitamin E for my face(story for another post). Yes I know you are wonder what happened to Bio oil. I stopped using it. Natalina Yemane is an Instagram influencer who runs Sisi naturals. The vitamin E has been known to help in clearing out acne for many people even her. I personally don’t battle with acne but I just needed it for my scaring and honestly I am happy about it. My skin is glowingπŸ˜†πŸ˜†. This was 750KES.

What have you been influenced to buy?

What is Drugstore??

Hello eilaslove it has been quite a while since I last posted I decided to take some time off to regroup my thoughts and content so that I can bring the best to you guys.

This post is all about shading some light to a term that most of us don’t understand and that i s drugstore. What do you understand when someone tells you that this beauty brand is drugstore?
Drugstore makeup refers to beauty brands that are sold en masse at common ‘drugstores’ or convenience stores. Think Target, Walgreens, Wal Mart, Rite Aid, Sams Club, and the like.

Definition from Google

These are a few drug store beauty brands available in Kenya:

  • Maybelline
  • Colourpop
  • Loreal
  • LA Girl
  • BH Cosmetics
  • Sleek Make up

High end beauty brands don’t sell products just at any store unlike the above beauty brands that do in the US mostly hence the name. In Kenya I doubt if the drugstore meaning works because in the US the drugstore beauty brands sell their make up at a really affordable prices compared to Kenya. We literally consider these brands as high end in our country. Not many people can affordable to buy them quality products because of their prices. Our economy is waay waay different from the US economy.

Most of us think that the fake make up sold in the beauty shops all over to be drugstore because of the cheapness of the product. These products are imitations of the real deal that hey…we consider them high end. We need to be sure of the products we buy and know how to find the quality drugstore make up.

Many of us ladies and young girls around cannot afford to buy ourselves a good foundation when we rely on our parents for everything when in school. Oooh and yes we are African and our parents are even more African than us. I know I cant go to my dad and ask him for money to buy make up since he believes that wearing make up is not a good thing. Let me ask if you survive on 1500KES a week in school, you need to eat, you need transport and other things and the most affordable Maybelline foundation is 1400KES, how will you get it??’

I get why ladies run for the fake beauty items because that’s what their pocket can afford. BUT! this I have to stress on. the ingredients on the fake beauty products we use daily to look good while imitating Joanna Kinutha, will give us a huge shock on our skin that will be hard to revive it.

I am here to stress on our skincare. Let us sacrifice today so that we can have a very easy skincare regimen in future. The usage of these fakes need to stop. Save up your coins to get the real deal. For now if you must wear make up….just use the simplest of products that do not have effect on your skin. e.g. The Davis eye /lip pencil.

Am gonna break down a budget for the make up for a full face with just one drugstore brand found in Kenya and we see how much one really need to get started on a good make up journey with quality products that are said to be affordable.
MAYBELLINE PRODUCTS from @the25thhive (I chose products that have the lowest pricing)

  • primer 1400KES
  • foundation 1400 KES
  • concealer 1200KES
  • powder 1400KES
  • highlighter 1400KES
  • mascara 1000KES
  • lipstick 1500KES
  • eye-shadow palette 1800KES

These products can make your make up starter kit. I didn’t find a Maybelline setting spray. In total you will need approximately 11100KES.OMG!!! NEED I SAY MORE……(without the tools)

I am currently saving up my money to get myself quality products but in the process am not neglecting my skin. Am striving to get clear skin which is proving to be tough since am battling with black scars and hyper pigmentation. All hope isn’t lost though. I will get there.

This is it for this post my eilalove I hope I gave you something to think about.

My Skincare Favourites this past 6 months.

Hey eila love. Welcome back to my blog. Yes I know…I know. I did not post last Tuesday. Am sorry. I wasn’t inspired at all. But am back now full of inspiration and motivation to write. I love you guys…I felt bad I didn’t write anything.

So without further ranting…let me get to this post. I have used quite a number of skincare products and I have come to love some of them if not all.

Bio oil. In my skincare routine you guys know that I have been using his product since January this year and it has helped me to even out my skin tone after a lightening incident I had last year. I will get to that.

Fluffy buttah. You guys…y’all need to get your hands on this body butters. They are amazing. They are really moisturizing. I use them for my hair as well.

Garnier even and matte range. I got the gentle clarifying foam and the soft smoothing toner. I recently got my hands on these garnier products and I am loving them. They are not harsh on my skin.

Image from Instagram.

Vaseline. I cannot live without this product. I use it mainly for my lips only because it tends to dry out more recently and it has been flaking. I don’t know why. Maybe the cold weather in Nairobi.

Jojoba oil. This oil that I got from @naturalglam_ke…is everything. I don’t know if they do stock them still. Jojoba oil is said to be similar to our own natural body oil/sebum.

Charcoal peel off face mask. Need I say more…. This mask works wonders for my face after the painful peeling offπŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ . it leaves my face feeling smooth and glowy. It has got peppermint do that minty feeling on the face helps blood to circulate on your face hence the glow.

Sunscreen. We all need sunscreen. We all need sunscreen SPF 30 and above. Mine is almost over…I need to get me more I will leave it at that.

My Diy face/body scrub. I love loooved that scrub you guys. I felt like it ripped off my age from my face and gave me a new extra extra young self. I will definitely make more of it.

What are your favorites so far???

Tips on buying skincare products!

Hey eilalove. Welcome to yet another post. Have you ever gone to a beauty store to buy a skincare product and you could not get yourself to buy something just because you did not know exactly what you were looking for? I know i have.

So here are a few tips to guide you before getting a skincare product(s).

Your skin type.

Do you have dry, oily, normal or combination skin? Like i said before knowing your skin type helps you to know the right products for you to use and what characteristics the product should have for your skin type.

The Ingredients.

There are harmful ingredients in skincare products that we need to look out for. They are: Parabens, Mineral oil, Polyethylene glycols (PEGs), Sodium Laureth Sulphate (SLeS) and Sodium Lauryl Sulphate (SLS). Strive to find products that are Vegan (non cruelty/ not tested on animals) and those that are organic or close to.

The price.

You don’t need to buy an expensive product that will not do you good in the end. There are quite a number of good products out in the market that are good for different skin types and they are very affordable. You need to do your research well and learn about your skin and the right product for it.Do not get yourself a cheap product that will mess up your skin! Cheap is expensive! Trust Me!

The reviews.

Check out reviews for a particular product you are interested in getting. You might be surprised to find out that someone will a skin type similar to yours uses it and the product works well for them. The more good reviews, the more wonderful a products is.

Compare products.

This is the last tip in my list because it is kind of hard for me to sometimes compare products. In a store you can find two different products, different brands, price but they do a similar if not same function. Choose wisely. This is where you need to check them ingredients!

Lastly…….. Today is a great day to get a good skincare product!
